Central Sofia avenue receives Armenian name![]() June 23, 2026 - 18:44 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - One of the most attractive streets in the heart of Sofia, located in the Peyo Yavorov neighborhood, will now officially bear the name Armenia Promenade. The decision was approved unanimously by the Sofia City Council, receiving 33 votes in favor, none against and no abstentions. According to the Embassy of Armenia in Bulgaria, the unanimous support represents an important expression of friendship and mutual respect, reflecting the centuries-old ties and strong friendship between the Armenian and Bulgarian peoples. “We express our sincere gratitude to the Sofia City Council and the administration of the Sredets District for their dedication and consistent efforts, thanks to which this initiative became a reality. It will serve as a lasting symbol of Armenian-Bulgarian historical friendship, as well as recognition of the Armenian presence in Bulgaria and the contribution of the Armenian community,” the statement said. The embassy noted that additional information regarding the official opening ceremony will be announced later. The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, have arrived in Washington.
