EU backs preparation of key road links

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, the European Commission and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have signed a joint memorandum of understanding. The document was signed during the high-level launch event of the Connectivity Agenda Platform held in Brussels.

The initiative provides support for preparatory work on the strategic Akhurik–Kayan and Margara–Kayan road corridors. These routes are intended to connect Armenia’s border crossing points with the country’s road network.

According to Armenia’s Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, the memorandum formally marks the launch of advisory support under the EPIC (Eastern Partnership Investment in Connectivity) initiative.

During the first phase of the program, the European Investment Bank will provide advisory assistance aimed at defining the scope of required studies and developing feasible solutions for implementing the road projects.

The ministry noted that the projects are being carried out within the framework of the Armenian government’s Crossroads of Peace initiative and are intended to promote regional transport connectivity, strengthen Armenia’s role as a reliable transportation and logistics hub, and advance the European Union’s Connectivity Agenda.

The memorandum was signed by European Commission representative Adrienne Kiraly, Armenian Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Kristine Ghalechyan, as well as representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank.
