Armenia sees further drop in births

PanARMENIAN.Net - The number of children born in Armenia continued to shrink in 2025, falling noticeably below the totals recorded during the previous two years.

Armenia registered 32,042 births in 2025, down from 33,593 a year earlier and 36,590 in 2023. Labor and Social Affairs Minister Arsen Torosyan drew attention to the downward trend during a meeting of the public council operating under the minister.

The country's fertility rate has also decreased, Torosyan said. The indicator reflects the average number of children born to a woman of reproductive age, Armenpress reports.

“Birth numbers continue to fall. We are also seeing a decline in the fertility indicator, in other words, the number of children born per woman of reproductive age. Some factors, including the age at which people marry, cannot be directly changed by the state. But a further fall in fertility would pose a serious problem for any country,” Torosyan said.

The minister said addressing the current demographic situation would require a shift in public attitudes, alongside government support programs designed to encourage more births.

“We should seek to reverse this situation through a change in attitudes and state programs,” Torosyan said.
