UNFPA: women bear most unpaid household work in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - The main burden of unpaid domestic and care work in Armenia falls on women, according to the results of a recent study.

Lusine Sargsyan, head of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Armenia office, presented the findings of a new study conducted in Armenia that, for the first time, comprehensively assessed the scale of unpaid domestic work, Auroranews.am reports.

According to Sargsyan, the study aimed to determine how much time people in Armenia spend on household chores and care work, which currently have no monetary valuation and are also insufficiently recognized socially.

One of the study’s key findings showed that women bear the main burden of unpaid work. Sargsyan noted that without appropriate measures, the current situation could also lead to economic problems.

She emphasized that international practices have already been developed to address the issue and could also be applied in Armenia. At the same time, Lusine Sargsyan noted that there is no single solution suitable for every family.

“Opportunities should be created so that every family can choose the option that works best for them and every family member can fully realize their potential,” she said.
