Samvel Karapetyan: Two monasteries in Lori turned into tower of Pisa

Research on Armenian Architecture (RAA) Organisation on behalf of the Armenian Ministry of Culture launched a program in 2009 to identify 26 architectural monuments of Armenia being in the worst condition. The program will help to restore them, " Samvel Karapetyan , an architectural historian and head of RAA told a press conference on February 15 in Yerevan.



According to him, some of the studied monasteries are simply in a poor condition. "Two monasteries in the Lori region "Bartsrakash'' and ''Karasnits mankants" almost turned into a leaning tower of Pisa, lurching from the very foundation. These walls have to be disassembled and reassembled, which is undesirable, but in this case necessary, " Samvel Karapetyan said. The cost of the project amounted to AMD 8 million, AMD 3.9 million were received by RAA.
