Emir Kusturica: to be recognizable in Armenia is more for me than in the U.S.

PanARMENIAN.Net - "When I heard the name of Armenia, I imagined something exotic, but the Armenians and Serbs have many common features. You are in an awkward geographical position, in regard to Europe you in the same position as Serbia, and we have similar enemies. That is why for me to be recognizable in Armenia is much more than to be recognizable in the United States, " Emir Kusturica , famous Serbian film director and musician told a news conference on March 5 in Yerevan.

According to hum, the historical subconsciousness of Armenians and Serbs are very similar. "You have gone through Genocide, we underwent the same during the Second World War. And that is why I believe movies I shoot will be accepted well by Armenians, like by Serbs, and I'm happy for that".

Speaking about his impressions from the house-museum of Sergei Parajanov, Kusturica said: "I had a feeling that I was found myself in one of the films of Parajanov. This Museum is yet another proof of his genius. His film "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" is one of the best films I have ever seen".

According to Kusturica, his films hardly ever get an Oscar, since these awards has their political implications. "I am from a small country which is like a pain in the neck foe others , " the director said.
