TEDxYerevan 2011 to be held in TUMO Center in Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - TEDxYerevan which will take place in Yerevan on September 24 for the 2nd time will be held in the TUMO Center of Creative Technologies.

“The names of speakers are not known yet, as negotiations are still under way,” Kristine Sargsyan, the initiator of TEDxYerevan and TED licensee, told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

“We either invite speakers or they apply themselves. If the applicant meets the TED criteria we work with him/her. There are people who really have a say, but they do not have oratory skills or vice versa. We meet with each speaker 6 or 7 times, teach them how to speak and so on,” she noted.

According to Sargsyan, 300 licenses are provided for the participants in TEDx Yerevan, though the number of invitees is not known yet.

“We will try to use the entire potential of the license. Participation in TEDx is upon invitation. We invite only people who can pick up a lot from the speakers, exchange and use the information gained and who will become potential speakers for the next year,” she said.

TEDxYerevan partners with Civilitas Foundation.

The event will proceed under the motto “Becoming Younger” and will focus on understanding such concepts as youth and aging. TEDxYerevan 2011 will be closed with a special stage titled “Twenty” with the participation of the most talented speakers.

Yerevan was the first city in the region to host the first TEDx independent event dedicated to technologies, art and design. 17 speakers of TEDx Yerevan 2010 from Armenia, U.S., Canada, UK, Georgia and Kuwait presented their ideas and experience.

TEDx is a non-official program of TED (Technology Entertainment Design). Since 1984, TED has held annual conferences, which bring together scientists, political players, entrepreneurs, artists, musicians, engineers.
