PACE monitoring committee to assess democratic institutions in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - At September 8 Paris-hosted sitting, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) monitoring committee will review a report on functioning of democratic institutions in Armenia.

The report was prepared by PACE co-rapporteurs for Armenia John Prescott and Axel Fischer, the head of Armenian delegation to PACE Davit Harutyunyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

On July 19-21, Mr. Fischer paid a 3-day visit to Armenia. On the sidelines of his visit, the co-rapporteur met with Armenian coalition and opposition representatives.

Mr. Fischer stressed the importance of the forthcoming parliamentary elections for the democratic development of the country. In this context he called upon all parties to ensure the democratic nature of the elections and to refrain from any actions or statements that could undermine that trust.
