BookCrossing Network in Armenia turns three months

PanARMENIAN.Net - "Read this? Pass it to the next reader." This is BookCrossing Armenia’s slogan.

BookCrossing is an online archival and tracking system, where users are able to tag and track their individual books by marking them with BCIDs (BookCrossing Identity Numbers).

BookCrossing system was introduced to Armenia three months ago. In a conversation with a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, ARMACAD founder and CLUBORATORIA Director Khachik Gevorgyan noted that ARMACAD has already registered 161 books in BookCrossing.com.

The idea of BookCrossing in Armenia is promoted by three clubs: CLUBORATORIA, MetroMusic Pub and ArtBridge bookstore cafe. 20 members from Armenia have already registered 201 books on BookCrossing.com.

Gevorgyan plans to organize BookCrossing meeting during which people will register and tag books.

Bookcrossing is defined as "the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise". The term was first coined by Ron Hornbaker in 2001.

As of 2010, Bookcrossing.com comprised over 6 million books and 870 000 members.
