Karl Davies-Barrett: people value smartphones by brand not by OS

PanARMENIAN.Net - On November 30 - December 1, Microsoft Innovation Center Armenia hosted workshop sessions by DPE technical Lead for CEE Karl Davies-Barrett.

Yesterday, December 1, he briefed all present on Windows Phone 7 (WP7) operating system.

According to Mr. Davies-Barrett, all OS usually focus on icons.

“If you pay attention to other operating system interfaces you will see different application icons. Windows Phone 7 focuses on people. If users go into other OS applications to learn about friends’ activities, then Windows Phone 7 enables them to see all updates in one place,” he said.

He further noted that Windows Phone Marketplace already comprises 40 000 applications and presented Windows Phone 7 browser Bing searching system of IE9 and OS.

“People don’t care which operating system runs the phone, they buy smartphones by brand. Sometimes they choose not to buy the phone as it doesn’t have Angry birds on it without knowing they can download it from marketplace. We cooperate with leading companies such as Samsung, HTC and Nokia,” Davies-Barrett told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

At the end of the workshop, he presented ways of developing applications for Windows Phone 7 operating system.
