Motorola Xoom WiFi edition owners receive Android 4.0.3 updates

PanARMENIAN.Net - Motorola Xoom WiFi edition owners Wednesday, Jan 18, reported that they have started to receive over the air Android 4.0.3 ("Ice Cream Sandwich") updates to their tablet computers, Network World reported.

Ice Cream Sandwich is the first edition of Android designed to run on both smartphones and tablet formats. Features include support for facial recognition, visual voicemail playback, Google+ integration, Android beam device communications technology and more. Some Xoom owners got an early update last week as part of a so-called Motorola "project."

Sam Herren of The Android Guys blog reports that the update is named ILM77, which references Industrial Light & Magic and 1977, the year Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope was released.

If the OTA update hasn't already come your way, you should be able to do a manual update from your current "Honeycomb" version of Android by heading into Settings, according to various Android blogs.

Ice Cream Sandwich tablets were among the hot topics at last week's CES 2012 event in Las Vegas, where companies such as Velocity Micro and Acer showed off or talked up such gadgets.

The Asus Transformer Prime was the first tablet in line for an Android 4.0 upgrade.
