  Clinton says Karabakh conflict should be resolved peacefully February 5, 2012 - 19:00 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Nagorno Karabakh conflict should be resolved peacefully, U.S. Secretary of State said. During a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, Hillary Clinton said that the United States, as a co-chair country of the OSCE Minsk Group, will continue helping the sides towards an agreement. According to RA MFA press office, the two diplomats discussed the settlement in detail, with Minister Nalbandian attaching importance to the U.S. role in the process and briefing on the outcomes of the presidential meeting in Sochi on Jan 23.    The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army.
