Environmental activists address open letter to Armenian PM

PanARMENIAN.Net - Civil activists advocating for preservation of Mashtots Park in Yerevan addressed an open letter to the Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.

“The official website of the Armenian government informed on March 13 that the agenda of the government’s March 15 meeting includes the draft decision by Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan “On competencies of Yerevan’s Mayor”,” the statement says.

The 3rd point of this draft envisages dismantling and transfer of the stores in Mashtots Park within a three-year period.

“The content of this decision demonstrates that Yerevan’s municipality and Armenia’s executive power never managed to perceive correctly the demand of our society with regard to Mashtots park issue,” the letter says.

Green activists once again emphasize that construction of kiosks/stores in this territory is illegal and contradicts the general plan of Yerevan.

They demand that the provision on store dismantling be removed from the governmental meeting’s agenda.
