Authorities aim to prevent opposition candidate's nomination, paper says

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian authorities do not intend to register candidacy of the Armenian National Congress supporter Khachatur Sukiasyan nominated by majority system in 10th constituency, thus preventing him from participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

According to Haykakan Zhamanak daily, the Armenian Police Passport and Visa Department recognized as invalid Sukiasyan's documents stating he has been permanent resident and citizen of Armenia during the past five years.

Chairman of the 10th electoral committee Samvel Yazryan told the paper on March 16 that they received a note from the police saying Sukiasyan’s documents were void.

According to paper’s data, Sukiasyan is going to appeal against this decision in the court. If the issue with his documents is not settled, he will not be able to join the proportional list of the Armenian National Congress either.
