Karen Bekaryan: Armenia has been ready to recognize Artsakh long ago

PanARMENIAN.Net - Chairman of European Integration NGO Karen Bekaryan said that, in his opinion, Armenia has been ready to recognize Artsakh long ago.

Armenia has not done it up to date only due to the fact that the country does not want to “shut the door” before the negotiation process for the Karabakh conflict settlement, Bekaryan told a press conference in Yerevan.

He added that the country’s leadership has always hoped that the international community will understand that recognition of NKR is the way to settle the conflict.

The Armenian expert noted that Armenia’s recognition of Artsakh should not necessarily happen only in case of hostilities resumption – it can take place also due to the process logics.

For example, Armenia may recognize Artsakh when it finally becomes clear that Azerbaijan is not going to make any steps towards its recognition.

Referring to the possibility Artsakh’s recognition by Armenia’s parliament during the December 9 sitting, Karen Bekaryan said that, most likely, the matter will be postponed again.

According to him, the Armenian President sent a signal to the Azerbaijani leadership during the OSCE summit, now it is necessary to wait for Azerbaijan’s reaction.
