Karen Karapetyan urges to stop spreading rumors about his resignation

PanARMENIAN.Net - Chief of the Armenian presidential administration Karen Karapetyan has issued an open letter to say that rumors about his resignation disseminated by media recently are untrue, being baseless speculations.

He advised not to waste time, which can be used for the country’s and people’s benefit. “The Armenian President and Chief of Staff of the President have normal working relations. And attempts of some people to cause contradictions in the country’s presidential staff deserve condemnation,” Karapetyan wrote.

The rumors about Karapetyan’s resignation were prompted by the fact that he organized a meeting between ex-mayor of Yerevan Gagik Beglaryan and employee of the presidential staff’s protocol department Aram Kandayan, during which Beglaryan severely beat the latter. Following the incident, Gagik Beglaryan submitted his resignation on December 8.

The incident occurred on December 3, at Yerevan-hosted concert of Spanish tenor Placido Domingo. Beglaryan’s spouse and her friend took seats next to that of Armenian President’s, which, according to the protocol, are meant for the Catholicos of All Armenians, parliamentary speaker and Armenia’s Prime Minister. Aram Kandayan asked Beglaryan’s wife to change her seat. However, Mrs. Beglaryan, outraged by the request, complained about it to her husband, who, in turn, asked the head of the presidential staff Karen Karapetyan to set up a meeting with Kandayan. Beglaryan drove Kandayan to the territory of Metaks factory, which belongs to the ex-mayor, and severely beat him.
