Peter Semneby completes his mission as EU’s envoy to South Caucasus

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian met in Yerevan with EU’s envoy to South Caucasus Peter Semneby, whose mandate expires on February 28, 2011.

The two men referred to Eastern Partnership, elaboration of EU-Armenia Association Agreement, creation of free trade zone, visa regime relaxation between Armenia and EU member states.

Hailing Peter Semneby’s activity, Nalbandian stressed the important role of the EU’s special representative in boosting cooperation between Armenia and EU, the RA MFA press service reported.

Semneby is on his last regional visit as EU’s special envoy to South Caucasus. On February 25, he will meet with the Azerbaijani leadership in Baku.

It is rather possible that the post of EU’s envoy to South Caucasus will be abolished.

In summer 2010, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton proposed abolishing the posts of EU special representatives for Moldova, Near East and the South Caucasus region.
