Expert: Russia must use all possible tools to stabilize Caucasus

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russia must use all possible tools to stabilize the Caucasus, according to theology and philosophy department head at St. Petersburg State University.

“Unfortunately, Russia can presently position itself as a regional power only,” Vladimir Gurotov told journalists upon completion of an international conference on Armenian-Turkish relations.

For his part, professor Valery Achkasov noted that Russia showed certain interest in the “football diplomacy.” “We are watching the strengthening partnership of Russia and Turkey, which tries to pursue a policy independently of the United States,” he said, adding that Russia has its own interests in the region, including mediation for the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement.
