New Times leader doesn’t rule out ANC-authorities alliance May 23, 2011 - 14:36 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - New Times party leader does not rule out the possibility of an alliance between the Armenian National Congress (ANC) and the authorities, who might follow Miasnutyun Union’s example. At a news conference in Yerevan, Aram Karapetyan reminded about the time when the opposition leader Karen Demirchyan formed Miasnutyun Union with Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsyan, despite his complicated relations with the authorities. According to Karapetyan, ANC and current authorities have much in common, specifically, Karabakh conflict settlement issue and Armenian-Turkish Protocols. However, the two parties have not planned a union yet. Karapetyan further urged the authorities and ANC to closely follow the events in Georgia, with Armenia still is danger of a revolution. New Times leader was sceptical as to the possibility for a dialogue to resolve social, economic or political issues in the country. “Even if the ANC-authorities agreement truly exists, upon completion of regular elections the authorities may con ANC out of the number of mandates promised, considering weakened ANC positions at the time,” he stressed.
