Zhengyalov Hats, a combination of various types of greens with dough is one of the most famous dishes in Artsakh cuisine. The Battle of Sardarapat was a battle of the Caucasus Campaign of World War I that took place near Sardarapat (modern-day Armavir), Armenia from May 21–29, 1918. Sardarapat was only 40 kilometers west of the city of Yerevan. The battle is currently seen as not only stopping the Ottoman advance into the rest of Armenia but also preventing the complete destruction of the Armenian nation.

Bank notes with the value from 10 to 500 Drams were put into circulation on November 22, 1993. Later, in 1994, a bank note with the value of 1000 drams was issued, followed by the edition of 5000-dram bank note in 1995.
