Zvartnots airport old terminal to be demolished? October 3, 2013 - 18:15 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The old terminal of Zvartnots airport is at present a dangerous construction, Armenia International Airports CJSC said in a statement, noting that no resources for preservation of the building will be provided from now on, or any responsibility for emergency situations assumed. "We are planning to upgrade Zvartnots international airport yet won't be spending time or resources to maintain the collapse-prone construction which doesn't meet modern air-navigation standards," the company statement said. A 30-year concession agreement for the management of operations at the airport was signed with Armenia International Airports CJSC n 2001. As the company statement said, "with the passengers’ security provision as a key goal and responsibility, the government approved the plan stipulating for construction of a new terminal to meet modern standards. Adjacent to an old terminal, a new building was constructed, the former left unused being below par." As the Armenian Public Council spokesperson Ani Gasparyan told PanARMENIAN.Net discussions on demolition of the old terminal are in progress with a decision to be taken by the end of next week. As she reminded, earlier, the representative of the General Department of Civil Aviation (GDCA) Ashot Azizyan pledged to support any decision taken by the Public Council.
