Violation of children’s rights reported in 3 American regions

PanARMENIAN.Net - A conference covering the results of a research on children’s rights violation in Lori, Tavush, Gegharkunik Armenian regions was held on September 10.

As the director of Save the Children Armenia Irina Sagoyan noted, cases of physical and psychological violation, lack of attention for school and orphanage pupils were observed, as well as less frequent instances of child exploitation. “Studies indicate unawareness both children and parents as to the structures to be addressed in case of violation,” Ms. Sagoyan noted, stressing the need for closer contact between families and social services.

“The issue of the protection of children’s rights is still a pressing one, despite a number of reforms implemented in the sector. The research conducted will help reveal and address the unresolved problems,” Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Issues Filaret Perikyan noted.

The Head of the European Commission Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Raul de Luzenberger emphasized the importance of research in children’s rights protection sector.

Unite for Children, Save Futures project has been operating in Armenia since 2009.

The project was funded by the European Union is association with the Open Society Institute and implemented by Save the Children.
