Struggle against corruption to promote increase in education quality in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - A program of anti-corruption measures in the field of education was adopted during the November 18 sitting of the Armenian government.

Armenian Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan told a briefing that the program has been developed as per instruction of the Armenian Prime Minister. It will be implemented within two years.

According to Ashotyan, corruption phenomena in the field of education are specifically observed in two directions. First, funds at the amount of AMD 100-100,000 are collected in secondary schools for current demands of educational process, what is a violation of legislative norms. Second, corruption risks are observed in higher education institutions, specifically, during entrance exams.

Armen Ashotyan pointed to most important articles of the program of anti-corruption measures: legislative amendments, increase in level of educational system management, provision of transparent reporting about the Ministry’s activity, clarification of financing mechanisms, etc.

“The increase in level of education quality will lead to cut in corruption risks,” the Minister said.
