Armenian, Georgian Presidents award winners of Armenian-Georgian school Olympiad

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Saakashvili awarded winners of the first Armenian-Georgian School Olympiad in Yerevan scientific-industrial center of Synopsis Armenia company.

The Olympiad is organized at the initiative of the two Presidents. It aims to strengthen cooperation in the scientific-educational field. The Armenian-Georgian Olympiad, which is held in mathematics, physics and informatics, brought together 30 school students from each country.

The event will be organized regularly.

"Residing near each other for millenniums, we have never used weapon against each other. We competed in literature, disputed whose theater is better, who plays football or chess better. That was the basis of our competition and it is a good covenant that we can pass on to our children," Mr. Sargsyan said in his address to the Olympiad participants.

In his welcoming speech, Saakashvili praised the Olympiad organization and its results, expressing hope that the next Olympiad will be held in Georgia.

According to him, Georgia is going to provide President's scholarship to students from Armenia, who can continue their education in Georgia.

"I strongly believe that the two countries of the region will be always near each other and we will be thinking of future hand in hand, as our future is conditioned by the friendship of our two peoples," concluded Saakashvili.
