British expert briefs young Armenian filmmakers on importance of documentariesMarch 10, 2011 - 14:25 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On March 10, British specialist Sarah Ross, who has a background in broadcasting, communications and events, held seminar with a theme of “British Model of Raising Awareness of Social Problems,” at the Armenian Union of Cinematographers with participation of young filmmakers. The role of documentaries in raising public awareness of social problems and advocacy of documentaries as a whole were in the focus of the seminar. Ross attached importance to advocacy of similar films in social networks. “Social media, specifically, social networks provide with a good opportunity to disseminate information on films. Even if a person does not watch the film, he will be aware of the problem raised in it,” Ross told journalists. “Filmmakers need to cooperate with public organizations so that a documentary gains success. Besides, the film should be based on a strong script,” she said. Psychological consequences of conflicts, specifically, problems of soldiers returned from Afghanistan are most popular topics among British documentary filmmakers.
