Military detention suggested to be substituted by disciplinary company in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Deputy Minister of Defense Ara Nazaryan said that the adoption of the law on a disciplinary charter of the Armenian armed forces will contribute to the combat efficiency of the Armenian army.

“The cornerstone of the new law is that a disciplinary arrest is suggested to be substituted by sending servicemen to a disciplinary company, as arrest of a serviceman contradicts the Armenian Constitution,” Nazaryan said during parliamentary hearings on the bill on Disciplinary Charter of the Armenian Armed Forces.

Deputy head of the law department at the RA Ministry of Justice Sasun Simonyan said for his part that under the bill, servicemen have the right to dispute commander’s order and submit a relevant protocol with respect to it.

He noted that an officer will not be made liable for not obeying an order of his commander, if it is justified.
