THIRD CONGRESS OF WESTERN ARMENIANS PLANNED IN PARIS

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Third Congress of Western Armenians is planned to be held in Paris in summer, reported the Yerkir newspaper. The first two meetings were held in Yerevan in 1917 and 1919. In the words of the initiators of the congress - editor-in-chief of the Armenian Herald and Citizen journals being published in Moscow, publicist Karen Mikayelian the event goal is to form representation bodies - the National Assembly and the National Council from representatives of different generations of Western Armenians, who live in many countries of the world. The activities of those structures should be aimed at uniting the Diaspora potential, working out and implementation of common Armenian programs, promotion of secure, dynamic and sustainable development of the Armenian statehood, search for more efficient mechanisms of securing the rights of Armenians in the world. Over 500 delegates (including 50 from Armenia) will represent several million Armenians. In K. Mikayelian's opinion, Armenians dispersed throughout the world should attain the solution of the Armenian issue (Hay Dat). It is unfair to demand that the Republic of Armenia lay territorial claims to Turkey, as it makes the relations between the two countries tense. The future representation bodies are just those, who should put forward these demands. Their representatives will be deputed to hold talks with the Turkish authorities over acknowledgement and denouncement of crimes, committed by Ottoman Empire leaders, compensation of the damage, as well as securing an opportunity to return to their fatherland to all those wishing to do it. «Today's Armenia should be formed as the core of the future Armenia,» the publicist considers.
