EU supports peace efforts for Karabakh conflict resolution

PanARMENIAN.Net - The European Union supports peace efforts for the Nagorno Karabakh resolution to be based on the non-use of force, territorial integrity and the right of nations to self-determination, the European Commission President said.

Speaking at a news conference in Yerevan, Jose Manuel Barroso said that the Union hails the OSCE Minsk Group’s continuous endeavors for establishment of lasting peace and neighborly relations in the region.

He also voiced concerns about the incidents in the conflict zone.

Asked to comment on the Armenian-Turkish relations, Barroso said: “The EU stands ready to facilitate the Armenian-Turkish normalization. We certainly discuss the matter with Turkey, as Armenia still remains blocked. The two countries should take joint initiatives, overcoming difficulties through a civilized dialogue.”
