Military operations in Libya may accelerate Iran's nuclear program, Russian experts say

PanARMENIAN.Net - The military operations of France, U.S., Great Britain and other states in Libya may force Iran to accelerate its nuclear program, according to Russian parliamentarian, former secretary of the Russian Security Council Andrei Kokoshin.

As he noted, Libya used to work towards creation of its own nuclear weapon but in December 2003, the country announced intention to cease activity on development of nuclear weapons or any other weapons of mass destruction. In 2004, the country revealed the details of its work in this sector, addressing a statement on 20 years of unannounced nuclear activities to IAEA.

“Currently, many experts maintain Libya wouldn't have been subjected to military attacks had it possessed its own nuclear weapons,” Kokoshin remarked.
