407 Trespassers Arrested in Armenian-Turkish Border in 2006

PanARMENIAN.Net - 407 trespassers have been arrested in Armenian-Turkish Border in 2006, said lieutenant-general Sergey Bondarev, the head of Russian Frontier Troops in Armenia to a news conference in Yerevan. In his words, also was discovered a, hiding-place with two kilograms of trotyl and five electric detonators.



"Generally the trespassers drive cattle from Armenia to Turkey. But also there are other examples. On April of 2006 a Turkish soldier crossed the border and occurred on the territory of Armenia. He was arrested without armaments in the border sector of Armavir military detachment. By Armenia's National Security Service decision the soldier was handed to the Turkish side. He crossed the Armenian-Turkish border because of non- army regulation relations in his sentry post." said Sergey Bondarev. He also added that during the year of 2006 a total of $153 000 worth smuggled goods were seized, which is much higher than in 2005. Then the total number of contraband was worth $ 35 000.
