NATO Sec. Gen. highly appreciated IPAP realization by Armenian side

PanARMENIAN.Net - On April 4 Armenian ex-Defense Minister and the newly appointed Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan met with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and his Special Representative in the South Caucasus Robert Simmons in Brussels. He also participated in Armenia-NATO session of the North-Atlantic Alliance's Council with 26+1 format, the RA Defense Ministry Press Office reports. NATO Sec. Gen. appreciated the realization process of Armenia-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP). He stressed that he is aware of internal political developments in Armenia and expressed hope for further deepening of bilateral relations between Armenia and the North Atlantic Alliance.



In his part Robert Simmons stated that one year has passed from the start of IPAP realization. "We gave first estimation, which was positive, it was also underlined by NATO member-states. We discussed issues concerning reforms in defense structure, as well as Armenia's participation in NATO programs. We hope this positive process will continue, and we will be able to develop our cooperation. This is the viewpoint of ambassadors to Alliance," he underlined. Serzh Sargsyan underscored the importance of observers' opinions and added that viewpoints of sides coincide. Armenia realized IPAP measures in time and on proper level. "Undoubtedly the main guarantee of security is the military efficiency of our army, armed forces, and parallel to it - our relations with NATO and participation in CSTO supplement our security system," Serzh Sargsyan stated.
