Existence of Turkish Republic based on non-recognition of Armenian Genocide

PanARMENIAN.Net - During the recent years Armenia has made the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire an irreversible process, Ruben Safrastyan, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies at the RA National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, told a news conference in Yerevan.

Turkey is not twiddling its thumbs either. The existence of the Turkish Republic based on non-recognition of the Armenian Genocide. There is no a politician or party in Turkey who could acknowledge the fact of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire, Ruben Safrastyan said.

As to domestic crisis in Turkey, Mr Safrastyan thinks that the current situation is a test for the country. "If the General Staff stops interfering into the internal policy and allows normal election it will be a step towards democracy. If not, Turkey will remain a state fitting to Ataturk's plans," he said.
