President of UAR skeptical about resolution of Karabakh problem in near futureJuly 7, 2007 - 14:28 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - "For many years I have been learning that the sides are very close to the solution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, beginning from Key West, where unfortunately, the long-expected conciliation and resolution of this problem was buried. Today again we hear various rumors and talks as if the sides are close to adopting a coordinated position on Nagorno Karabakh," President of the Union of Armenians of Russia (UAR) Ara Abramian stated. The President of UAR is skeptical about the possibility to settle this problem in the near future. "As far as I can judge from Azeri press and statements of Azeri officials, they only want to see Karabakh as a de jure part of Azerbaijan. Moreover, from time to time they threaten with military operations to forcefully resolve the problem, leaving aside the negotiation mechanism. Already today Azerbaijan refuses to settle the status of Nagorno Karabakh. And of course, I am seriously concerned over this like many other Armenians," he underlined.Ara Abramian said, this fall UAR is going to hold an international conference in Armenian on the issue of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement. "In the framework of this conference we'd like to familiarize ourselves with the opinion of Armenian MFA in detail, as well as leading experts of various countries. We are going to exchange opinions during the conference concerning the solution of the problem aimed at turning the region from confrontation into arena of cooperation and good neighborhood," Ara Abramian underscored, "Azg" daily reports.
