CIS observers: executive bodies secured proper organization of electoral process in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - The CIS observation mission has published an interim report on preparations for the February 19 presidential election. The report says that the Armenian side provided essential information on the measures taken by the authorities for conduction of transparent and free elections.



"During the period of January 22-27 the mission members held meetings presidential contender Artur Baghdassaryan as well as with heads of headquarters of presidential hopefuls Artashes Geghamyan, Vazgen Manukyan, Vahan Hovhannisian, Serzh Sargsyan and Levon Ter-Petrosyan… During a meeting with OSCE mission head Geert Hinrich Ahrens an agreement on regular contacts and exchange of information on the election campaign was achieved," the reports reads.



The mission launched monitoring of the election campaign on January 23. Written requests to inform the mission staff of violations and complaints was sent to the appropriate republican bodies.



The report says that the mission includes 17 long-term observers. In all, the mission will consist of 150 observers from CIS member states, CIS interparliamentary assembly and other structures.



"The nomination and registration of candidates was held in compliance with the RA Electoral Code. All candidates were provided equal conditions for carrying out free election campaign.



"The electoral rolls have been filed and posted at the CEC web site. A hotline opened for citizens wishing to voice their remarks and proposals.



"The CIS observers consider that the executive bodies and election commissions have ensured proper organization of the election process," the report says.
