Azeri MFA "disappointed" with Rice statement

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry expressed disappointment with yesterday's statement by U.S. Secretary of State, Dr. Condoleezza Rice.

Addressing the Peace Corps 2008 Worldwide Country Director Conference, Dr Rice said that the Caucasus, not so much Georgia, but Azerbaijan, to a certain extent Armenia, should do important work to become closer to standards that they were once meeting.

"We do regret that the assessment of situation in our region is beneath criticism and is a manifestation of double standards," said Khazar Ibrahim, Azeri Deputy FM.

"There is an impression that Washington is not aware of the real state of affairs in the region. It's very disappointing, especially in the light of strategic relations between the United States and Azerbaijan," he said, Day.az reports.
