Charges brought against Nikol Pashinyan

PanARMENIAN.Net - RA investigatory powers charged Chief Editor of Haykakan Zhamanak opposition newspaper Nikol Pashinyan with application of violence against law enforcement authorities representative and organization of mass disorders, Press Service of RA Prosecutor General's Office reported.



Preliminary investigation of March 1 mass disorders in Yerevan is completed. Charge is brought against Nikol Pashinyan in accordance with part 1art. 316 (application of violence against law enforcement authority representative) and part 1. art 225 (organization of mass disorders) of RA Criminal Code.



Dissatisfied with the outcome of February 19, 2008 presidential elections, Armenian opposition started meetings in the centre of Yerevan. On March 1-2, protest actions grew into disorders. 8 were killed and 200 injured. Nikol Pashinyan, who actively participated in disorders, went into hiding and was being searched by law enforcers.



On July 1ne of active participants of March 1 disorders, surrendered to law enforcement agencies. The oppositionist was arrested and taken to Yerevan-Kentron penitentiary.
