Armenia to take part in international conference on animals welfareOctober 5, 2009 - 18:04 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Every year the international conference on pets' welfare takes place on the Animal Welfare International Day since 1996 in European cities. The 4th of October is the Animal Welfare International Day. Each year since 1996 the International Companion Animal Welfare Conference is held in which the largest animal welfare international organisations and representatives of local organisations from almost 50 countries around the world come together. This year's conference will be held from October 7 to 9 in Budapest (Hungary) and Armenia for the first time will participate in the conference. Given the urgency of the problem of stray dogs in Armenia, some international organizations have suggested to the Yerevan municipality to co-operate in developing and implementing a comprehensive program to control the number of stray dogs. The conference is the major event and creates a platform for representatives of different countries to work together, share knowledge and experiences, establish international and regional cooperation. 11th Conference will pay a special attention to animal welfare, and the issues of animals' reproduction control and sterilization. Topics include public health and safety as well as implementation of the education programs, publicity, and promotion of legislation. Armenia is the only country of the Council of Europe which never took part in Conference. Armenia has an opportunity on participation at this year's Conference.
