Istanbul’s Lutfi Kirdar theater to host Komitas concert

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian composer, musicologist and choral conductor Komitas is being commemorated on the 141st anniversary of his birth and the 75th anniversary of his death.

The Respect for Komitas: Songs of This Land concert will be held on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at Istanbul’s Lutfi Kirdar International Congress and Exhibition Palace.

Komitas’ compositions will be played by pianist Sahan Arzruni and sung by Ari Edirne, Sevan Sencan and Kevork Tavityan. Leading choruses from the Turkish-Armenian community – Karasun Mangants, Lusavorich, Sahakyan, Surp Takavor and Vartanants – will one by one take the stage and give voice to Komitas’ choral pieces.

Other artists, including Aynur, Sevval Sam, the Bosphorus Exhibition Group and the Askin Ensemble, will provide additional color to the evening with their interpretations of Komitas’ works.

The evening is part of the events of the Istanbul 2010 European Cultural Capital and has been organized by the Anatolian Culture and the Istanbul Culture and Arts Foundation with the support of Kalan Music, Hurriyet Daily News reported.
