Armenia to ask WTO to allow increasing amount of assistance to agricultureMarch 21, 2011 - 16:17 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Chairman of the Armenian Union of Local Manufacturers, head of the Public Council’s Committee on Financial, Economic and Budgetary Affairs Vazgen Safaryan praised the criticism Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan leveled against those responsible for agriculture failures. “In my opinion, this “cold shower” will have a positive impact on agriculture,” Safaryan told a press conference. He added that though the criticism was delayed, it may still help in reviving agriculture. According to Safaryan, subsidies should be provided to agriculture, as in all developed countries, solve the problem of irrigation and production of local fertilizers, etc. He said that Armenia’s Public Council is drafting a letter to the World Trade Organization, in which it will offer the WTO to allow increasing the assistance to agriculture despite the limitations adopted during the WTO accession.
