ARMIX unit to be established in downtown Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE) applied to the Armenian government for allotment of 140sq. m territory at Tigran Mets Avenue to establish ARMIX unit – a center for Internet traffic exchange.

UITE CEO Karen Vardanyan said that it is a place, where all providers will have their units. The issue on territory’s allotment will be solved within several months, Vardanyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

Providers intend to decrease usage of external Internet traffic through ARMIX that will have a significant impact on tariffs and quality of the provided Internet services. The initiative group includes the following leading companies of Armenia’s telecommunications sector: VivaCell-MTS, Orange Armenia, ADC, U!Com, iCon, Web, Apaga Technologies, GNC Alfa, Shirak Technologies, etc.

ArmenTel company has not joined the initiative yet. Meanwhile, according to Karen Vardanyan, ArmenTel will join ARMIX.

On May 5, CEO of ArmenTel company Igor Klimko expressed readiness to discuss the company’s participation in ARMIX.

ARMIX center for Internet traffic exchange was established in Armenia in April. It is planned to “keep” 20-30% of Internet traffic in Armenia through the Internet exchange center, what will allow decreasing Internet prices. ARMIX was established by the Union of Companies of Information Technologies and Internet Society NGO.
