VivaCell-MTS General Manager briefs YSU students on company’s missionSeptember 18, 2010 - 15:11 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian was hosted as a guest speaker at the Department of Journalism of Yerevan State University, the company said in a press release. Yirikian made a brief presentation on the topic “VivaCell-MTS: Business with a Mission,” where among other topics, the Corporate Responsibility mission of the Company was introduced. Other topics of the lecture focused on the activities of the Company, especially the widest in Armenia 3.5G network and other key strategic aspects of Company’s performance. The specifics of the audience determined the direction of the lecture: future journalists were particularly interested in the public activities of the Company and relationships with the media. The focus of the discussion was the type of information made available to the media under respective legislation, the procedures, ways and conditions of providing information and working with the media. “Journalism is one of the most important and responsible occupations in terms of ensuring transparency and dialogue among the public. All type of companies should be under permanent media scrutiny, which is the best way to ensure accountability of the Companies to the customers and society as a whole, the major stakeholder of any business entity working in the country,” VivaCell-MTS General Manager said. “We should pay tribute to another important function of the media – maintenance of feedback loop between the society and business. Among other channels, companies learn about public perceptions on their activity through publications in the media, which is an important source of information about the image and reputation of the Company held by the public,” he said presenting the main approach of VivaCell-MTS. VivaCell-MTS General Manager shared on the importance of adopting open-minded approach by the companies, based on the well-known assumption that “Public Has Right to Know.” VivaCell-MTS believes that responsiveness to the public opinion secures leadership positions in quality of services and innovation. Yirikian presented the students the ways of communicating with the media and the society at large: the need to have a multilingual website with up to date information, holding media events and inviting media to cover key public events of the Company, having a separate PR section handling relations with the media, proactive work with the media, organizing seminars on telecommunications and finance for enhancing the knowledge and competence of journalists in the field.
