Museum of Modern Art announces app for iPad to download e-booksApril 6, 2011 - 19:02 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Museum of Modern Art announced the release of MoMA Books, a free Application for the Apple iPad that allows users to purchase, download, and read a growing number of MoMA’s e-books, including favorite backlist titles that are no longer available in print, such as Atget by John Szarkowski. The MoMA Books App provides greater and more convenient access to exhibition catalogues that offer a lasting record of the Museum’s diverse exhibition program, scholarly texts on key works and artists in collection, and anthologies of important art-historical texts from around the world. The MoMA Books App presents a digital bookshelf of MoMA publications that users can browse by downloading free sample sections that provide a preview of the book’s contents. Titles available in e-book format can quickly be purchased through in-App purchasing with the user’s Apple ID and account. Once e-books are downloaded to the App’s Library, users can immediately enjoy a seamless and enriched reading experience directly within the App. Recent titles that are not available as e-books can be purchased through a direct link to MoMAStore.org. Users can also link directly from the App to MoMA.org to explore collection works, check the exhibition schedule, or purchase admission tickets. MoMA e-books preserve the original design and layout of the print book while enabling users to zoom in on superb, high-resolution reproductions of artwork for close study of details. The App also allows users to bookmark their favorite pages for future reference. As more MoMA e-books become available, the App will automatically prompt users to update their browsing shelf to show new titles, Artdaily reports.
