Number of Foursquare users increased due to BarCamp Yerevan 2011

PanARMENIAN.Net - Arpine Grigoryan, a participant and organizer of BarCamp Yerevan 2011, briefed during the event on geo-location social networks, specifically Foursquare, which has become popular during three years of its existence.

“There are 300 users of Foursquare in Armenia, what is insufficient. Foursquare mobile program operates through GPS, but one can check in with the assistance of web-version. It is a very convenient network, which makes communication with friends more interesting. One can inform other users of the network about his/her location, etc,” said Grigoryan.

Besides, one can give advice and obtain virtual badges through Foursquare, as well as become a mayor due to the number of visits.

“Users can make special suggestions. For example, they can comment on where food is delicious and where smoking is forbidden. And if one checks into various venues oftener, he can be awarded with mayor’s status and privileges,” Grigoryan said, adding that people follow closely advices of Foursquare users abroad and even discounts and presents are offered to mayors of shops and cafes.

Many participants of BarCamp Yerevan 2011 have registered in Foursquare during the event.

In April, Yerevan users of Foursquare held a meeting initiated by Arpine Grigoryan.
