Armenia to continue participation in Karabakh peaceful settlement

PanARMENIAN.Net - On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the OSCE’s decision to launch the Minsk process, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan issued a congratulatory note to the heads of OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries: Dmitry Medvedev of Russia, U.S. leader Barack Obama and France’s Nicolas Sarkozy. President Sargsyan expressed gratitude for the consistent efforts aimed at Nagorno Karabakh conflict resolution for the past 20 years. Noting that despite the fact the key goal of the Minsk Group i.e. conflict settlement has not been reached yet, Serzh Sargsyan hailed the enormous efforts by the MG in approximating the positions of the conflicting parties, development of the basic principles, reduction of tensions and maintenance of peace in the region. President Sargsyan stressed Armenia’s readiness to continue constructive participation in the framework of the Minsk Group aimed at peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict, to foster establishment of stability and security in the region, and building more prosperous future of nations.

The OSCE Minsk Group

The OSCE Minsk Group was created in 1992 to encourage a peaceful, negotiated resolution to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The Minsk Group is headed by a Co-Chairmanship consisting of France, Russia and the United States. The main objectives of the Minsk Process are as follows: Providing an appropriate framework for conflict resolution in the way of assuring the negotiation process supported by the Minsk Group; Obtaining conclusion by the Parties of an agreement on the cessation of the armed conflict in order to permit the convening of the Minsk Conference; Promoting the peace process by deploying OSCE multinational peacekeeping forces.
