Bryza: Armenia, Azerbaijan not ready for Karabakh settlement

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijan and Armenia are not ready yet to solve the Nagorno Karabakh problem, former US ambassador to Azerbaijan said.

“The Karabakh problem will be solved. Leaders of both countries have a framework agreement on their tables. One needs to have 4-5 or 6 important conditions to solve the issue. The presidents of both countries must undertake the solution of the problem and trust each other. This is a great political risk, because peoples of both Azerbaijan and Armenia are not ready to pass a decision on problem resolution, either both societies must change their views or the presidents must undertake great political risk,” Azerbaijan Press Agency (APA) quoted Matthew Bryza as saying.

He commented on his non-appointment as a U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan, explaining it by democracy and freedom of speech.

“This is politics. Such things happen in America as a result of democracy, and this is inevitable. The thing that I’m not appointed is no surprise to me. This reflects freedom of speech. One organization opposed me conditioning it by the fact my wife was born in Turkey,” he noted.

Bryza further expressed gratitude to President Obama, who despite pressure from the Senate appointed him as ambassador to Azerbaijan for a year.
