Expert: radical Islamists’ assuming Syrian power must be prevented

PanARMENIAN.Net - Radical Islamic organizations’ coming to power is detrimental to the country’s ethnic minorities, including Armenians, Islamic terrorism expert said.

“Armenians will face serious problems. They should hold clear stance in case of Islamic forces assuming power,” Sargis Grigoryan said, stressing the need to prevent such forces’ coming to power.

Another Islamic studies expert Armen Petrosyan, in turn, said that Syria’s current opposition has negative attitude towards all of the forces, who refuse to back them.

Dwelling on future political developments in the country, Mr. Grigoryan stressed the need to force the conflicting parties into stepping up negotiations, however deeming it impossible given the current violence.
