Kirillov, 50, was assaulted on Monday, June 25 as he was returning from the beach in the town of Jurmala with a female companion, 24. The assailant fired four shots. Kirillov died of his injuries on the spot. His companion was taken to hospital with unspecified injuries. Kirillov was the owner of Nikos OM, a timber processing company. According to police, he was also in the tobacco business and might have engaged in smuggling operations.
