“No Quiero Dormir Sola” wins top prize at Mexico's Morelia Film Fest

PanARMENIAN.Net - Natalia Beristain's directorial debut No Quiero Dormir Sola (She Doesn't Want to Sleep Alone), a story about a young woman forced to take care of her alcoholic grandmother, won best picture at the 10th Morelia International Film Festival, The Hollywood Reporter said.

From the same producers of Machete Language, Mr. Woo and Chamaca Films, She Doesn't Want to Sleep Alone made its world premiere at the Venice film fest earlier this year in the Critics' Week sidebar.

Morelia's audience award went to I Hate Love, a teen love story from Oveja Negra helmer Humberto Hinojosa.

In the documentary category, the jury gave the nod to Pedro Gonzalez Rubio's Inori, which focuses on changing lifestyles in a small mountain community in Japan. Gonzalez Rubio's first feature-length documentary, Toro Negro, was executive-produced by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. His second work, the docu-fiction hybrid Alamar, nabbed the Tiger Award in Rotterdam.

Special guests this year at Morelia, one of Mexico's top film festivals, included directors Abbas Kiarostami, Sally Potter, Pablo Larrain, Whit Stillman and actors Gael Garcia Bernal and Geraldine Chaplin.

The weeklong event opened Nov. 3 with Larrain's Pinochet-era drama No and closed Nov. 17 with Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom.
