Al Jazeera: Sargsyan to win 2nd term after Hayrikyan shooting

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan is likely to win a new five-year term after an election campaign marred by an assassination attempt on of the candidates and a hunger strike by another, Al Jazeera reported.

“Opinion polls suggest Sargsyan's victory in the voting on Monday, Feb 18 is all but certain. The opposition has failed to unite and back the strongest challenger, diluting their influence on the outcome of the polls,” the paper reports.

“It will take me 1.5 or 2 years to reform Armenia. We will have a democratic and legitimate state. The country will further pursue a new policy and international relations,” presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan said in interview with Aljazeera.

“People are aware of the distribution of the voting bribery. That’s a criminal crime. That’s anti-constitutional,” another candidate Andrias Ghukasyan said.
