Protest Actions against Axa to Be Held in Turkey

PanARMENIAN.Net - One of the powerful Turkish unions, the Civil Servants' Trade Union (Memur-Sen) launched a series of protest actions against Axa insurance company, which decided to pay compensations to the heirs of the Armenian Genocide victims. "We will organize rallies against Axa in 81 regions of Turkey. I hope thousands of people will join the rallies at the Axa offices," Memur-Sen President Ahmet Aksu stated. Last week he called upon 200 thousand of the union members not to cooperate with Axa. A wave of protests against the French insurance company arose over the agreements achieved between the company and the heirs of the Armenian Genocide victims. In general, Axa decided to return the $17 million insurance payments to persons, who were insured by Company Turkish branch before 1915 and fell victim of the Armenian Genocide. $3 million will be spent to cover trial expenses, as well as to notify relatives of the Armenian Genocide victims. $11 million will be provided to the foundation that starts returning insurance payments. OYAK, the pension fund of the Turkish army also condemned the decision by the French Company, RFE/RL reported.
